Thinking About the Church and Culture

"By the twentieth century the great danger and temptation of the church and its people was no longer Constantinism but populism" (John Lukacs, Democracy and Populism: Fear and Hatred, 238). This is a great insight. Historically Baptists have been very aware of the problems with the union of church and state; but we have been almost intentionally blind to the problems of populism.
